What is a Podcast?
Podcasting is like a magazine subscription, except it subscribes you to various audio recordings (or videos) from all over the internet. The easiest way to “subscribe” to a podcast (also referred to as a “newsfeed”, “feed” or RSS) is via iTunes. Once you subscribe you will receive the newest audio messages each week in iTunes!
Step One: Install iTunes
If you already have iTunes installed on your computer you can skip this step. To install the latest version of iTunes is available directly from the Apple website. iTunes is free, available for both Mac and PC, and is able to manage and organize all your podcasts.
Step Two: Set-up an iTunes Account
All podcasts (including the free ones) are available through the iTunes store. In order to use the iTunes store you will have to set up an iTunes account.
Please Note: You must enter a credit card for iTunes to keep on file in order to set-up an account. They will not charge your credit card unless you buy something (music, movies, etc.) from the iTunes store. Most podcasts are free, so double check before you click.
If you do not feel comfortable entering a credit card you can subscribe by clicking on Advanced in the upper menu bar and clicking on “Subscribe to iTunes”. Enter this url in the open dialog box: http://www.solidrockweb.org/media/audio?podcast – Disregard the next step if you choose this option.
Step Three: Subscribe to the Podcast
Click on the podcast link above (ex. Solid Rock Weekly Sermons). A new web page will open up and iTunes will launch and go directly to our podcast profile. You’ll see our podcast preview image, here you can subscribe to the entire podcast so you will receive it automatically every week or you can download a single message. To subscribe click the “Subscribe Free” button below the image.
Step Four: Downloading the Podcast
Once you have subscribed iTunes will automatically download the latest message and each new one the day they come out. If you would like to download previous messages you can click on the “free” button next to the name of the message.
To see which podcasts you are subscribed to click on “Podcasts” on the left sidebar of iTunes.
